Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane has claimed that penalty shootouts are a "lottery" after losing to Cape Town City in the MTN8 semi-final thanks to Peter Leeuwenburgh's heroics.

Leeuwenburgh saved spot-kicks from Toni Silva and Tebogo Langerman to set up a final date with SuperSport United after a 1-1 aggregate draw.

Sundowns dominated the second leg, which they won 1-0, but failed to take several chances to kill off the tie - irking Mosimane, who once again did not appear keen on diving into too much detail with SuperSport's Robert Marawa.

"Good game. We should have wrapped it up earlier. We don't have to wait for penalties," the Sundowns boss said. "You have to take your chances."

Hlompho Kekana was forced off with an injury and Mosimane revealed that Langerman and Jose Ali Meza saw out the game despite carrying knocks.

Asked whether or not Masandawana's penalty shootout defeat was down to any more than luck, the former Bafana coach said: "I don't know. Lottery, I think.

"Because people who usually score - we practice them - we didn't select because we select. We select because of the way it's gone in practice.

"It's part of the game, it's okay. Congratulations to them, they hung in there and they deserve it. Benni [McCarthy] deserves it. I hope he wins [the MTN8]."

The final will be played on Saturday, September 29 with the venue and kick-off time yet to be announced.
