Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes dropping points away from home in the CAF Champions League is what cost the side advancement into the knockout stages.

Sundowns bowed out of Africa's most prestigious club competition after a 0-0 draw with Guinea's Horoya on Tuesday.

The Brazilians ended in third position in Group C with six points behind their opponents in second as well as defending African champions Wydad Casablanca in first.

The former Bafana Bafana boss explained that a draw away as well as losing to As Port-Togo away ultimately cost his team.

He said: "It's unfortunate because first we lost it in (sic) Horoya. We scored two goals against Horoya.

"With five minutes to go we conceded a goal from a corner. We were two up, there was no problem.

"But the biggest game for us was the game in Togo (1-0 loss in July). There was no way we could lose that game. It was unbelievable what happened in Togo.

"That's how the tournament went. You saw the game against Wydad. We scored in the first two minutes. We were up.

"We lost concentration there. My players thought the ball was out. They stopped. That was a Christmas gift."

Sundowns won the tournament in 2016.
