Cape Town - Bidvest Wits' Confederation Cup campaign concluded with a disappointing defeat on Sunday as they lost 2-0 against Group C rivals Djoliba AC.

The Malaian visitors asserted themselves early in the clash and took the lead in the 16th minute via a set-piece. El Hadji Salim Bah whipped in a corner kick from the right and Mamadou Cisse got on the end of it with a powerful header which nestled into the top corner of the Wits goal.

Gavin Hunt's charges did well to hold on to the ball for long periods in the first half, enjoying over 70 percent of the possession, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Wits appeared to level matters just before the half-time break when they put the ball in the back of the net from a free-kick, but a flag went up for offside and the goal was disallowed.

The home team's hopes of mounting a comeback took a big blow in the first minute of the second half as Djoliba scored their second goal. They attacked down the right wing and crossed into the danger zone where Oumar Camara was on hand to curl a shot into the top corner of the Wits goal.

Wits tried to get themselves back into the game but they lacked the cutting edge required to truly trouble the visitors who comfortably held on to their two-goal cushion to record the win.

The defeat saw Wits finish bottom of Group C after failing to win any of their games, losing four and drawing two.
