Melbourne - There appears to be a trend in world tennis at the moment, defeat Rafael Nadal in a Grand Slam and then almost be assured of losing the very next match.

There have been nine players (listed below) who have defeated Nadal in a Grand Slam and only one of these (world No 1 Novak Djokovic) didn’t lose their next match.

It is worth noting that although Djokovic won his next match, it was in the 2015 French Open final that he surprisingly lost to Wawrinka in what would have been a calendar Grand Slam for him.

Players be warned! Defeating Nadal is not what it is cracked up to be!

Verdasco 2016 Australian Open (lost to Sela)

Fognini 2015 US Open (lost to Lopez)

Brown 2015 Wimbledon (lost to Troicki)

Djokovic 2015 French Open (won next game, but lost the final to Wawrinka)

Berdych 2015 Australian Open (lost to Murray)

Kyrgios 2014 Wimbledon (lost to Raonic)

Wawrinka 2014 Australian Open (won final against Nadal, but lost 1st round of 2014 French Open)

Darcis 2013 Wimbledon (walkover to Kubot)

Rosol 2012 Wimbledon (lost to Kohlschreiber)
