Cape Town - Stan Wawrinka admits he will have his work cut out if he is to defeat Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Wawrinka's 7-6 (7/2), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jo Wilfried-Tsonga in Tuesday's quarter-final has set up an all-Swiss semi against Federer, who stormed past Mischa Zverev 6-1, 7-5, 6-2.

The world number four is now higher up the rankings than his compatriot and is confident he can win if he plays his best tennis when they pair meet.

"Yeah, for sure now I'm more confident with myself. When I step on the court, doesn't matter who I play, I know what I have to do if I want to win," Wawrinka said.

"For sure, against Roger, it's always special because he's so good. He's the best player of all time. He has an answer for everything.

"But I have managed to beat him in a Grand Slam, so we'll see. Most important is that I step on the court and I play my best tennis."
