Cricket South Africa must make sure that there are no gremlins in appointing the next director of cricket, which will leave another lasting cloud like the one that hovered over Graeme Smith's appointment throughout his two-and-a-half-year tenure.

It's probably the biggest truism in cricket currently, but Cricket South Africa (CSA) has to take greater care procedurally in appointing the next director of cricket following Graeme Smith's departure. 

History tells us that nothing in South African cricket must ever be left unsaid.
