Cape Town - The Titans came back from their first taste of the Abu Dhabi T20 shootout greatly encouraged by several aspects.

Ultimately, they were disappointed that they didn't come back to South Africa with the trophy, after the Lahore Qalanders undid them in the final winning by 15 runs on Saturday at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

"I would give the tournament 10 out of 10," skipper Albie Morkel told the Titans' official website.

Despite not coming back with the trophy, Morkel said he and his side found plenty of positives during their week away.

"I played in the Champions League tournament a few years ago, and it was fantastic. I really missed it, but this tournament has the potential to grow and grow," said the former Proteas all-rounder.

"It is great to have a platform for domestic players to test themselves, and it really has been a great experience for us.

"For the younger guys, it was an excellent experience to play in an international tournament, but also for us older guys, too," said the 37-year-old.

The other benefit of a tournament of this nature is the exposure it provides for players of promise. No one grabbed that opportunity better than Tony De Zorzi, thanks to a sparkling century in the Titans' opening match against the Boost Defenders.

"No one out there knew about Tony's ability before this week. We obviously knew what he was capable of, but that is exactly what these types of events can do for a player," said Morkel.

The timing of future editions of the tournament might also see an upscale in quality, given that several teams were missing key players.

"It was a wonderful first tournament, and going forward it might be even better if all the franchises had their international players available," said Morkel.

"Regardless of which format we were playing back home, this was s wonderful opportunity for us. We had an awesome experience, and would love to be involved again."

The Titans prepare for their second 4-Day Domestic Series match against the Warriors at Centurion starting on Friday.
