Mumbai - Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the World Cup final against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Both teams are chasing their second World Cup title after India won in 1983 and Sri Lanka triumphed in 1996.

The match also has an interesting subplot as two of the greatest cricketers of all time Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan will be squaring off for the last time in international cricket.

Muralitharan will retire after the final while even the great Tendulkar is unlikely to play in another World Cup.

Both teams have injury problems.

Sri Lanka are without all-rounder Angelo Mathews, who suffered a quadriceps muscle injury in his team’s semfinal win over New Zealand, and his absence may prove crucial as Sri Lanka’s middle-order is undoubtedly their weakness.

Sri Lanka have also left out Ajantha Mendis, Chamara Silva and Rangana Herath.

All-rounder Thisara Perera, off-spinner Suraj Randiv, seamer Nuwan Kulasekara and batsman Chamara Kapugedera are all included.

India will have to make do without the services of left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra, who has a finger injury, and he has been replaced by paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth.

India - Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt, wk), Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Munaf Patel.

Sri Lanka - Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara (capt, wk), Mahela Jayawardene, Chamara Kapugedera, Thilan Samaraweera, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Suraj Randiv.
