Cape Town - The Proteas' ICC World Twenty20 title ambitions are out of their hands, after Faf du Plessis' men crashed to a three wicket defeat against the West Indies in Nagpur on Friday.

As it happened: Proteas v West Indies

After winning the toss and electing to field, the West Indies restricted the Proteas to 122/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Despite losing kingpin Chris Gayle for a two-ball four, the West Indies posted 123/7 with two deliveries remaining to secure top position in Pool A - and their spot in the semi-finals.

The Proteas for their part, having lost to England by two wickets and beaten Afghanistan by 37 runs in their previous matches, will now have to rely on England beating Sri Lanka on Saturday (16:00) and then beating Sri Lanka themselves on Monday (16:00) to stand any chance of progressing in the tournament.
