There was nothing subtle about Graeme Smith's approach to batting during his illustrious international career.
A large, fairly cumbersome specimen, his feet didn't always work a charm and he was more butcher than artist for many of his strokes.
But that didn't stop him from being an admirable, statistical heavyweight at the crease across the formats for South Africa: a consistent sense of guts, application and "BMT" can go a very, very long way.
