Faf du Plessis moved to the top of the run scoring charts in the IPL this season as the Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in Delhi.

Chasing a target of 172, Du Plessis continued his good form in the tournament as he struck 56 off 38 balls as CSK reached the target with nine balls to spare.

Du Plessis shared in an opening stand of 129 in exactly 13 overs with fellow opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who hit 75 off 44 balls, as CSK only lost three wickets in their chase.

The stand for the first wicket set up the run-chase and victory that sees CSK move back to the top of the IPL table, ahead of RCB on net run-rate.

Du Plessis' tally of runs now stands at 270 after six matches with the Proteas batsman looking in fine form.

Earlier, Manish Pandey hit 61, captain David Warner 57 and Kane Williamson 26 not out off 10 balls as the Sunrisers scored 171-3 in their 20 overs after electing to bat first.

Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the CSK bowlers with 2/35 in his four overs.
