Former Proteas bowler Paul Adams has been appointed as the new Border coach for the new franchise system.

Adams needs no real introduction as being a player for Western Province and Cobras from 1995-2008 and representing his country.

The former spinner took 134 Test wickets and 29 ODI wickets in a international career from 1995 and 2004.

He achieved a CSA Level 4 Coaching qualification, has a proven record of coaching elite teams and players, as well as a deep understanding of international and first-class cricket demands.

As a coach, Adams was instrumental for the Cape Cobras, taking the franchise to five domestic trophies in that role.

He has also worked as a coach with the South Africa 'A' and a spin bowling consultant for Cricket South Africa.

"It's an honour to be named head coach for the Border region and I am excited to get to East London and to connect with the team," said Adams.

Border is in Division 2 in CSA's new domestic restructure and will manage a young side.

"It's an exciting time in South African cricket and an exciting time in the Border region. With the new restructure of professional cricket, it's an opportunity to contribute and be part of building success in the region," said Adams.

"I see my role at Border as one in which I have to help nurture a team culture and to get each player to perform at optinum level.

Adams commences employment on 1 June 2021.

Marco Marais, Phaphama Fojela, Thomas Kaber, Gideon Peters, Nonelela Yikha, Jerry Nqolo, Clayton Bosch, Joshua van Heerden, Jason Niemand, Mncedisi Malika, Sean Jamison
