Cape Town - Proteas stars Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis may feature in the ICC World XI side to take on Pakistan in a three-match T20 series next month.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) agreed to support the series in a bid to help revive international cricket in Pakistan.

According to Pakistan website Dawn, a top Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official stated that either Amla or Du Plessis will captain the World XI side.

Du Plessis is the current Proteas T20 and Test skipper.

"Two big names in South Africa and world cricket, Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis, have consented to touring Pakistan with the ICC World XI and one of them will be the captain of the side," the official told DawnNews.

Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower will coach the ICC World XI and has been assigned to select the squad for the tour.

PCB chairperson Najam Sethi said on Monday that 15 players from seven countries had agreed to play in Pakistan.

Sethi said that the PCB will announce the names of World XI players in the coming days.

The ICC World XI and Pakistan series is set to get underway between September 12-19.
