Cape Town - AB de Villiers came out to bat for the Proteas on the final day of their three-day warm-up match against a South African Composite XI at the Wanderers.

De Villiers recently underwent hand surgery and was rested for this game, but appears to have recovered enough to get some time in the middle.

Thami Tsolekile was picked as South Africa's wicketkeeper for the game, with the promising Quinton de Kock picked for the South African hopefuls.

Tsolekile registered scores of 2 and 12 in South Africa's innings', while De Kock top-scored for the Composite XI with 50 in their first knock.

The Proteas made 300 in their first innings before bowling the Composite XI out for 135.

The Proteas declared their second innings on 243/7, setting the Composite XI a victory target of 409. De Villiers was 40 not out, while Faf du Plessis top-scored with 102 before he retired out to give other batsmen a go.

De Villiers was allowed to bat after JP Duminy retired hurt on Wednesday with a sore wrist.

His presence in the middle is vital for South Africa's as going into the three-Test series against Australia as questions exist over Tsolekile's qualities as a Test 'keeper.
