Midway through the second session of Saturday's third day of the first Test between the Proteas and Bangladesh, Wiaan Mulder was informally warming up for a bowl.

It was a quintessential school cricket scene, the one where the eager upstart has been promised a bowl by his captain and coach, but is starting to wonder if they might've forgotten about him.
