Considering the changes to the domestic system, the first order of business for the Northerns is retaining their Proteas Test opening pair of Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram. 

With the pair sharing an unbroken opening partnership of 162 that whittled down the 151-run lead the Knights had painstakingly eked out over nearly two days of batting, a reminder of class always winning over form was dished out. 

That 151-run lead came through the Knights declaring on 414/9 after the Titans were bowled out for 263 on day one.
