Cape Town - Proteas opening batsman Dean Elgar has spoken highly of expected opening partner in the first Test against England, Heino Kuhn.

Kuhn, 33, is expected to make his Test debut at Lord's on Thursday, July 6.

Kuhn's first-class career spans over 12 years and 133 matches, where he has made 9301 runs at an average of 44.71.

Leading up to his long-awaited Test call-up, Kuhn made 1126 runs for the Titans in the 2015/16 Sunfoil Series and scored a decent 527 runs in the 2016/17 four-day edition.

Kuhn impressed during the South Africa 'A' tour to England this month when he blasted an unbeaten 200 against Hampshire and 105 against the England Lions.

Elgar believes that Kuhn's national selection will bring an "exciting" energy to the Proteas Test side.

"Heino is a highly experienced player back home. He's played a lot of seasons of cricket, so he is quite comfortable with his game plan at the moment," Elgar told reporters in Worcester on Wednesday.

"It's great to see him finally get an opportunity and it's quite exciting because he brings a lot of energy in to the team and it's good to see a new face. I hope he has a great Test career."

Kuhn is no stranger when it comes to opening with Elgar. Earlier this year the Titans duo shared an opening stand of 113 against the Warriors to seal a victory for the reigning Sunfoil Series champions.

"Heino and I are the best of mates and have been for many years. We've opened the batting back home, so he is not unfamiliar to me," said Elgar.

"I'm sure our chemistry will go out on to the field."
