There were a million reasons, really, to get excited about the first-time Test meeting between West Indies and South Africa at Bridgetown, Barbados in April 1992. 

The obvious and poignant one was the very fact that still white-governed SA, with apartheid only in its delicate "phasing out" process, were playing the Caribbean constellation of nations - still with a fearsome cricketing reputation from the late 1970s and 1980s, and overwhelmingly black - at all.
