Batsman Raynard van Tonder has been released from the Proteas Test squad due to injury, Cricket South Africa confirmed on Saturday.

The 22-year-old fractured his finger during a team practice session on Friday in preparation from Sunday's second and final Test match against Sri Lanka.

"Raynard van Tonder has been released from the Proteas Test squad due to a fractured finger on the left hand. The injury took place during the team’s practice session on Friday," the statement read.

"He will return to his franchise (Knights) for rehabilitation and no replacement will be named for the second and final Test match against Sri Lanka beginning tomorrow."

Van Tonder has yet to play for the Proteas but is considered one of the brightest young prospects in the country currently, particularly in red ball cricket.

The Proteas are 1-0 up in the two-match series and will be eager to claim a whitewash when the two sides clash on Sunday at the Wanderers Stadium.

The match starts at 10:00 (SA time).
