Temba Bavuma, the Proteas' new limited-overs captain, has something already in his favour: he will soon hit the ground running in his new capacity.

Anxious, no doubt, to put his stamp on things as quickly as possible - in a year where the big focus is a T20 World Cup in India, from October - his wish will largely be granted roster-wise.

South Africa are pleasingly hosting Pakistan, one of the more influential Subcontinent teams, in seven white-ball contests (three ODI, four T20) in early April, a very useful exercise in beginning the fine-tuning phase for the global tournament.
