Cape Town - Proteas coach Russell Domingo is set to have talks with veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis about his future in the one-day international arena.

Domingo, in an interview with Rapport, said Kallis cannot be constantly rested for ODIs and then expect to be picked for the next World Cup in 2015.

Kallis, 37, last played ODI cricket for South Africa in February 2012 and has since been given time to rest in order to focus on Tests. However, Kallis in recent times stated his interest to still represent South Africa at the next World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

But Domingo is adamant that Kallis must play one-day cricket in order to be considered.

"I will schedule an appointment with him and we'll have to talk things through," said Domingo.

"I know from what period I want him to play for us. It would simply be unfair to expect other players to now do duty and then when the World Cup arrives, we suddenly include Jacques again.

"It just cannot work that way. We know what we have in him, but he has to play for us in the period before the World Cup if he wants to be considered.

"We also have to make peace with the fact that the day will come when we cannot call on Kallis's number anymore. We have to learn to live without Kallis, even though it will be tough."

The Proteas' next ODI series is against Pakistan in the UAE in October and November.
