The era of Black Lives Matter has put an even bigger spotlight on the sensitivities around national team selection.
The new man on whom that spotlight now shines, convenor of selectors Victor Mpitsang, has his sights on providing a fair opportunity for players to perform, regardless of their race.
Mpitsang, who was named by director of cricket Graeme Smith as Linda Zondi's successor, was part of the 30-odd black former Proteas who put their names down in a statement in support of Black Lives Matter, as well as seamer Lungi Ngidi's stance on it.
