It will be a while yet before Dane van Niekerk, captain of the SA women’s national cricket team, even begins to mull over any possibility of either a career or part-time role in television.

At 28, the stalwart all-rounder - fast approaching 200 caps across the formats - still has much to offer the game, you’d think, purely as a player.

But her freak recent domestic mishap (slipping nastily on the floor to break an ankle) opened a window of opportunity for her to dabble in TV work during the just-completed men’s ODI series between the Proteas and India ... and I sensed some potential.
