Temba Bavuma and the Proteas celebrate in Paarl (Gallo)
Temba Bavuma and the Proteas celebrate in Paarl (Gallo)

The Proteas will announce their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup on Tuesday.

National director of cricket Enoch Nkwe and selection chief Victor Mpitsang are set to address media at a Johannesburg press conference at 11:00 and the squad will then be named.

There are few surprises expected, and the only real question marks hang over the selection of captain Temba Bavuma, who has been recovering from the serious elbow injury he picked up against India in June, and Rassie van der Dussen.

In Bavuma's absence, the Proteas have been led in white ball cricket by David Miller and Keshav Maharaj and they had success with series victories against both Ireland and England.

Bavuma is currently with his franchise the Lions on a pre-season tour to Namibia, and in a recent interview with Sport24, he revealed that his recovery was ahead of schedule and that he was on course to make the World Cup squad.

Van der Dussen, meanwhile, is struggling with an injured finger he picked up in the second Test against England in Manchester last week that saw him sent home from the tour.

The likes of newcomer Tristan Stubbs and the returning Rilee Rossouw are also expected to be selected.

The T20 World Cup takes place in Australia and gets underway on October 16.

Sport24 will be bringing you the news of the squad announcement as it breaks.
