Radio 2000 snubs Proteas ... again!

Cape Town - Cricket fans who were hoping to listen to radio coverage of this month's four-match Test series between England and the Proteas are once again in for a disappointment.

Public broadcaster Radio 2000, a SABC-owned station, will not be doing live commentary on the series.

Instead, they will be providing hourly updates.

Supporters wishing to follow the action will have to tune into SuperSport 2.

Radio 2000 has built up a reputation as being the go-to station whenever the Proteas are playing, but this is not the first time they have opted against providing commentary on a Proteas series.

The station also decided against live commentary on last year's tour to Australia, though the time difference in that instance made the decision more acceptable.

Last month, the station also had no live coverage of the ICC Champions Trophy.

This time around, it seems that the decision was taken due to a lack of funds.

Respected cricket journalist and Radio 2000 cricket commentator Colin Bryden was asked by a cricket supporter on Twitter if there would be love commentary.

Bryden's response made reference to a lack of funds, but he did say that it looked promising that the home series against Bangladesh later this year would be covered.

Day 1 of the first Test at Lord's gets under way on Thursday at 12:00 (SA time).
