Proteas captain Temba Bavuma discovered upon arrival at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday that he would be without star batsman Quinton de Kock for a crunch T20 World Cup clash against West Indies.

De Kock had been included on the Proteas team sheet signed off by head of selectors Victor Mpitsang on Monday, but just hours before the first ball was due to be bowled, he declared himself unavailable.

It would later emerge, through communication from Cricket South Africa (CSA), that De Kock had refused to follow instructions that every player representing South Africa at the World Cup should take a knee in support if the fight against racism before every fixture.
