Cape Town - Dale Steyn has left the field four balls into his 11th over while on County Championship duty for Hampshire.

The county has confirmed that the fast bowler suffered a groin injury but the extent of that injury is currently unknown and it will be fully assessed tomorrow.

Steyn had bowled 10.4 overs for figures 0/41 on Day 2 of his side's clash against Nottinghamshire on Monday, but he could not complete his over and after a brief chat to captain James Vince and the umpires, he left the field.

Steyn's over was completed by Liam Dawson.

The obvious concern from a Proteas perspective is that Steyn has had a nightmarish run with injuries over the past couple of years.

A shoulder in Australia in November 2016 kept him out for most of 2017 before a heel injury in his first Test back against India at Newlands in February of 2018 sidelined him once more.

Steyn made another comeback on the recently-completed two-Test tour of Sri Lanka, where he picked up just two wickets to equal Shaun Pollock as South Africa's all-time leading wicket-taker with 421
