Proteas ODI captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of Tuesday's third ODI against the West Indies with hamstring discomfort.

According to a Cricket South Africa release, Bavuma experienced the discomfort after his monumental 144 in the second ODI at Buffalo Park on Saturday.

That not only necessitated a change in player resources, but a change in captaincy, with Aiden Markram stepping into the leadership void.

Markram incidentally won the toss and chose to bowl as South Africa welcome back several stalwarts, including their stand-in skipper.

Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller and Wayne Parnell all return.

Quinton de Kock is rotated as Ryan Rickelton and Tony de Zorzi form a new opening combination in what is clearly a move to grant the two rookies more game-time after the first ODI was rained off.

Proteas: Ryan Rickelton, Tony de Zorzi, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram (captain), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Wayne Parnell, Bjorn Fortuin, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi

West Indies: Kyle Mayers, Brandon King, Shamarh Brooks, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, Odean Smith, Yannick Carah, Akeal Hossain, Alzarri Joseph.

Play between the West Indies and South Africa in Potchefstroom will start at 10:00.
