For a proverbial inauguration, the Wanderers' iconic Open East stand couldn't have picked a more sparkling occasion to show off its rejuvenation.
More than 2 500 spectators assembled on the famous pavilion for what was Johannesburg's first taste of the SA20 - a derby between the two Gauteng franchises, the Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals - emphatically reinforcing its reputation as the part of the Bullring where the most fun is to be had.
Tellingly, however, the canvas of an eclectic collection of cricket fans drinking, cheering, singing and even dancing was significant because of its deeper symbolism.
