Cape Town - AB de Villiers will play in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle but is unlikely to keep wicket, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Tuesday.

De Villiers is suffering from a tight right hamstring suffered while batting in the last ODI in Hambantota at the weekend.

CSA announced via their official twitter account that it's unlikely that De Villiers will be ready to take the wicketkeeping gloves.

The tweet read: "Final prep ahead of 1st Test on the go. News from camp: ABdv unlikely to be fit to keep wicket but will play."

Quinton de Kock will take the gloves if De Villiers can only play as a batsman.

The first of the two Tests starts in Galle on Wednesday (from 06:30 SA time).
