Cape Town - Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is relishing the prospect of Australia's Cricket World Cup defence and stated that the event is the "pinnacle" of one-day cricket.

FIXTURES: 2019 Cricket World Cup

Starc was named player of the tournament as the Aussies landed the trophy on home soil in 2015 and is looking forward to his side's bid for back-to-back titles in the latest edition in England next month.

"In one-day games, the pinnacle is World Cup,' said Starc, as reported by ICC.

"No matter where it is. Or who's playing. It's the pinnacle of the game in one-day cricket.

"It's going to be a great tournament. It's that tournament where it shows how good a team is. You want to be playing your best cricket at the end," he added.

"You want to make the finals for this. But you want to keep your best cricket for the end. It's a bit different than playing the same team in a few game series."

The Cricket World Cup begins on May 30 and runs until July 14, with Australia set to open their campaign against Afghanistan on June 1.
