Cape Town - A teenage cricket fan was injured when he tried to catch a ball during the Festival of Cricket at Newlands on Sunday.

According to Monday's Cape Times, the 18-year-old fan was watching the T20 Challenge clash between the Dolphins and Titans when he tried to catch a six hit by Dolphins batsman Vaughn van Jaarsveld.

The ball then struck him in the face as he tried to catch it.

According to paramedics his nose was fractured.

Cricket SA spokesperson, Altaaf Kazi, said the teenager was taken to hospital for treatment but was back at the stadium before the start of the next match.

Three T20 games were played at Newlands on Sunday. The Dolphins beat the Titans by eight runs, the Warriors beat the Lions by 26 runs, and the Cape Cobras toppled the Knights by nine runs to end the weekend's proceedings.
