Kuala Lumpur - Marcus Fraser of Australia overtook leader Lee Soo-Min on the final hole to win the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia with a bogey-free round of three-under 68 on Sunday.

The win gives tour veteran Fraser, who finished the tournament at 15 under par, just his third European Tour title in 292 attempts and a victor's purse of $500,000.

The final round was a two-horse race between Lee, the silky smooth South Korean youngster with the K-pop looks, and the grizzled 37-year-old Aussie.

Starting the day with a three-stroke advantage, the overnight leader Lee fought off Fraser for most of the round as the pair matched fine iron play on the par-71 Royal Selangor Golf Club.

But the relatively inexperienced Lee, who is 22 and was making just his second European Tour start, opened the door on the 16th hole with a double-bogey that allowed Fraser to draw level.

After they both parred 17, Lee got into trouble again on 18 en route to another double-bogey while Fraser rolled in a par putt for the win.

Lee, who shot a two-over-par final-round 73 after mastering the course the day before with a dazzling 64, finished in a tie for second with Miguel Tabuena of the Philippines at 13 under.

The $3 million Championship Malaysia, debuting this year, is the successor to the long-running Malaysian Open, which has been discontinued due to a sponsorship realignment.
