Cape Town - Two-time Major champion Retief Goosen has qualified for his last Open Championship, which takes place at Carnoustie from July 19-22.

Goosen was one of the three golfers to secure their spot at the Open Championship qualifying series at Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich Bay in Kent.

The 49-year-old posted rounds of 71 and 72 in windy conditions to finish on 1-under par - good enough for third-place.

He will play his first Open since 2015 and his 19th career Open Championship - his best finish being a tie for fifth-place in 2005 and 2009.

Goosen, who won the US Open in 2001 and 2004, revealed that this will be his last Open Championship tournament before heading to the Seniors.

"I am glad it played tough, as I play better when it is difficult," Goosen told Golf Digest.

"I drove the ball well, and my long putting in the wind was good. This will be my last Open as a regular tour player - next year I'll be with the seniors - but I'm looking forward to it. Carnoustie is always tough but I'm sure it will be in great condition."

Goosen joins eight previously qualified compatriots in the field: Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace, Dylan Frittelli, Ernie Els, Shaun Norris, Erik van Rooyen and George Coetzee.
