Cape Town - South Africa's Charl Schwartzel has booked his place at the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

Three places were available at the South African Open this past weekend for the top three players in the top 10 not already exempt.

Schwartzel, France's Romain Langasque and England's Oliver Wilson earned their spots at next year's historic Open Championship.

Langasque finished in solo second behind 2010 Claret Jug winner Louis Oosthuizen.

Schwartzel carded a one-over par 72 to finish tied third on 10-under at the Randpark Golf Club.

Tied for third alongside Schwartzel and Wilson were South African duo Thomas Aiken and Bryce Easton, who missed out on an Open spot by virtue of their higher positions in the Official World Golf Rankings.

For 2011 Masters winner Schwartzel, it will be a 15th Open appearance and 11th in a row as he goes in search of a second Major title.

"It's a nice bonus... I'm still happy that I get to play the Open in Northern Ireland which will be really nice," Schwartzel told the European Tour website.

"Watching Ernie's last win and when Tiger won at Hoylake are two of my best memories of the Open and obviously when my good friend Louis won at St Andrews.

"It's special. There's so much history behind it and it would be nice to have my name on the trophy one day."

Schwartzel will be in the Alfred Dunhill Championship field this week at Leopard Creek.
