A scintillating performance by a Spaniard tripped up Louis Oosthuizen's chances at this year's US Open and nothing more.

Oosthuizen, who was in the final pairing, finished second and was a stroke adrift of champion Jon Rahm at a tough Torrey Pines.

It was the sixth time that Oosthuizen had finished as runner-up in a Major and his second of the year after his T2 at last month's PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.
