Bela Bela - Toto Thimba is hoping to go one better than his recent second-place finish and take a victory in this week's Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament on the Sunshine Tour.

Thimba, a member of the Gary Player Class talent identification squad on the Sunshine Tour, finished second in the recent Sun Carnival City Challenge.

That performance has lifted him into 24th place on the Sunshine Tour's Order of Merit, and Thimba has no intention of stopping there.

"I'm ready to win tournaments. I just want to go out there and dominate and win tournaments," Thimba said ahead of Thursday's first round of the Origins of Golf at the Zebula Golf Estate and Spa.

Thimba has already won on the Sunshine Big Easy Tour, the feeder tour for the Sunshine Tour. But he has yet to win on the main tour.

"I've been working really hard on my putting. But I also feel like I'm mentally stronger because a lot has changed in terms of my attitude towards the game and I feel good."

The Gary Player Class builds on the work done by the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB), the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation (EEFF) and other foundations that contribute to the development of the game, and takes this further by providing support for many of these players to succeed as professionals. And this season, the squad has seen a lot of individual success.

"We encourage each other a lot," said Thimba.

"As a group we are all working really hard. We're not competing against each other. I hope that if I can win one tournament it can open a lot of doors for the other golfers in the Gary Player Class."
