Last week's defeat to Wolves will hit particularly hard after Villa went into the final 10 minutes 2-0 up. Wolves scored three in the last 10 +injury time.
It must however be said that Villa have dropped off somewhat after a very promising start . They have lost their last two against Spurs and Wolves.
It will however not be easy against a very good and well drilled Aston Villa side.
Whilst they are undefeated in their last six, The Gunners and Arteta will want to pick up maximum points on home soil tonight.
Since their 3-1 win over rivals Spurs, Arsenal have failed to kick on. They drew 0-0 at Brighton, rather fortunately so and then followed it with another draw (2-2) against Crystal Palace last time out.
After a disastrous start to the Premier League, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal seemed to have turned the corner, winning four in a row whilst only conceding one goal.
Hello and welcome to the Emirates where Arsenal face Aston Villa in an English Premier League match.
KICK OFF! 0-0. We are underway at the Emirates.
Watkins goes into the book early for hurling Gabriel to the ground. Silly thing to do so early.
CHANCE! A ball is crossed towards the far post where Aubameyang should just head on target, but he chooses the acrobatic overhead kick. It goes wide.
Arsenal have made a good start here tonight. No goal but much like Palace, it has been impressive. Maintaining it will be their challenge.
Aubameyang puts the ball into the back of the net but it is pulled back for a foul.
Aston Villa struggling to get into this match. Superb high pressing by Arsenal thus far.
Tomiyasu makes a good run forward down the right but fails is marshalled well by Cash.
POST! Arsenal continue to post and Partey should really score but it rockets back off the post.
GOAL! ARSENAL! PARTEY! 1-0. Partey rises highest at the near post from the corner and finds the back of the net. Arsenal truly deserve that goal, been so much better than Villa.
The visitors have not gotten close the Arsenal in the opening 27 minutes. Their midfield completely overrun.
SAVE! Martinez keeps it at 1-0 with a superb save from Saka. It should really be 2-0, but it was a good save.
Targett almost makes a mess of a clearance but Martinez is out to prevent a corner.
Aston Villa have yet to have a shot on target. Quite disappointing given how vulnerable Arsenal have been this season.
After fading against Palace last time out, Arsenal have been brilliant since scoring.
It is hard to find one Villa player (other than Martinez) who have been better than a 4/10.
Some last ditch defending by Tuanzebe keeps the score at 1-0. Corner Arsenal.
+7 HALF TIME! 2-0. Arsenal were superb in that half and deserve the 2 goal lead. But how it came about looked very undeserved - how that was overturned to a penalty I do not know. Villa are not happy but they have also been very poor.
+6 GOAL! ARSENAL! AUBAMEYANG! 2-0. Martinez does brilliantly to save the penalty but it goes back into Auba's path and this time he finishes.
+4 PENALTY! It is given by the referee, looks extremely harsh. Hardly worth overturning at the very least - inconsistency continues.
+2 VAR review. Some time goes by before VAR suggests the ref goes back to look at a challenge by Targett on Lacazette.
Partey again meets the ball at the near post but this time it is over. Mings is having a mare out there.
Villa have gone to a back four with Tuanzebe making way for Bailey. The winger comes back from injury after impressing early in the season - can he inspire a comeback?
KICK OFF! 2-0. The second half is underway. Can Villa pull this back?
Immediate response from Villa but Ramsdale pulls off the save from Watkins shot.
Villa continue to put pressure on the Arsenal goal. An early second half goal here could liven things up proper. Corner to Villa.
Villa are leaving spaces at the back now. Saka's shot is well blocked by Targett,
GOAL! ARSENAL! SMITH-ROWE! 3-0. Great counter attack by the Gunners. Auba makes a superb flick pass to Smith-Rowe who finishes via a Mings deflection. Is that game over?
Villa have certainly been better in the second half but Arsenal are keeping them at bay. Along with the more risks, they are leaving space for Arsenal to counter.
SAVE! Ramsdale does well to protect his clean sheet. Buendia with the chance after a great ball through by Targett.
The crowd at the Emirates are buzzing tonight. This is the kind of performance they have been waiting for.
Lacazette makes way for Odegaard.
Villa have run out of a bit of steam. They need to get that second wind - early goal in the second half was key, but they couldn't convert.
High press by Villa results in Lokonga losing possession. Bailey picks it up and tries to curl it around Ramsey, but it is a comfortable save.
Maitland-Niles is on for Lokonga
Well worked free kick by Villa but Ramsdale comes and punches clear.
Ings is off for El Ghazi
GOAL! ASTON VILLA! RAMSEY! 3-1. Brilliant hit from the youngster. Bailey dribbles on the edge but the ball gets away from him. Ramsay however is there and places the shot beyond Ramsdale.
Oh no! Watkins misses a great chance to make it 3-2 and really put the cat among the pigeons.
Penalty appeal by Villa but the tackle by Gabriel was clean. Villa have left it a bit late but at least there is some excitement.
Ramsay has another attempt but this one is not as well struck as the one that found the back of the net.
FULL TIME! 3-1. Well deserved three points for Arsenal. They were superb in the first half and professional in the second. Villa huffed and puffed a bit in the second half but big improvement required if they are to progress up the table.
There will be 4 minutes added on.
