The two sides have met 26 times in the past, Chiefs winning 12 and Swallows six, with eight draws. In the 2020/21 season, Swallows beat Chiefs 1-0 at home and drew 1-1 away from home. Last season Chiefs beats Swallows 3-1 away and, in their most recent meeting, the two teams drew 2-2.
Chiefs have two wins, two draws and a loss in their last five matches in the PSL. They beat high-flying Richards Bay 1-0 at home, followed by a 2-0 away loss to Cape Town City. That was followed by draws against Amazulu (0-0 at home) and Marumo Gallants (1-1 away). Their most recent match saw them defeating SuperSport United 2-1 at home.
Swallows have lost three of their last five matches. They beat Sekhukhune United 2-1 at home towards the end of August, followed by a 1-1 away draw with Marumo Gallants. Next up was a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Stellenbosch, and in their last match they suffered a crushing 4-0 away loss to Golden Arrows.
Both sides have a game in hand over most of their rivals. If Swallows beat Chiefs they could rise anywhere to 11th or 8th spot, although the latter would require them to beat Chiefs by six clear goals. If Chiefs win, they will rise up to fifth place, although a win by four goals would lift them to third place, while a six-goal victory margin would put them in second place.
Chiefs aren’t doing a whole lot better, although the three points from their one extra win has lifted them to 10th spot on the log. Chiefs have won three, drawn two and lost three matches this season.
Swallows are really struggling to get their season going, having won just two of their eight matches. They picked up two draws as well, but their four losses have left them with just eight points from eight matches, leaving them bottom of the log.

HALF-TIME, SWALLOWS 0-2 KAIZER CHIEFS. Swallows have been strong on the press and been quick to look to attack but have lacked the finishing touch. Chiefs have had a lot more urgency about them as well as being clinical when it counted in front of posts and have been full value for their two-goal lead. Swallows have nothing to lose so should come out firing, but Chiefs should come out even harder as they look to move quickly up the table. As it stand Chiefs are in fifth spot… if they score two more goals without response then they will move into third space! So watch out Swallows!
GOAL, KAIZER CHIEFS, DOLLY; 0-2! Dolly strokes it through a gap that opens up in the Swallows wall and into the back of the net - magnificent strike for his second goal of the season.

Some scrappy play as both sides swap possession as tired legs start to show.
FULL-TIME, SWALLOWS 1-2 KAIZER CHIEFS. Wow, a pretty breathtaking second half, even though both sides were a bit loose on the ball. Swallows looked far stronger and eager in the second half but just lacked the finishing touches to snatch a draw. Chiefs sat back through most of the second half, until the last 15 minutes when they gained a second wind and pushed back on the hosts, not enough to crack the third goal but probably all that was needed to keep the hosts at bay. Tough break for Swallows, who would have been desperate for a win to lift them off the bottom of the table, but well done to Chiefs, who leap from 10th to 5th in the log. We hope you enjoyed following the action with us, and enjoy the rest of your evening.
