The Bulls have selected some heavy hitter for the Currie Cup opener while the Pumas have lost a few players after impressing last season.

The scrum is being reset but the Bulls look to have the early dominance.
We have had an injury break and still stuck with the first scrum of the game. Let's hope this isn't a sign of how 2022 will go.

Smith sends the kick across the uprights. Not a miss you'd often see from the Bulls 10.

Another penalty to the Bulls. Smith finds touch 8 meters from the tryline.
No try! Tambwe was in touch just before he put the ball down. Brilliant all round, including the tackle by Mafura.

TRY! BULLS! PAPIER! 0-5. Pumas can't hold onto their own scrum so Papier picks up the loose ball and scores.
Superb Pumas defence on their own line. Bulls are pounding at the line but the hosts force a knock on. Good stuff thus far.

Pumas are losing possession in the first phase every time. They need to start holding onto some possession.

PENALTY! PUMAS! DE BEER! 3-11. Solid kick by the Pumas 10 gets their points scoring underway.
Pumas now winning a string of penalties. They set the lineout up on halfway.
Penalty to the Pumas as the Bulls go off their feet at the breakdown. De Beer finds touch just outside the Bulls 22.
Big improvement by the Pumas over the last 15 minutes. It is now them applying the pressure but they aren't attacking the advantage line enough.
De Beer will have another chance for three points. Van Rooyen's no arms tackle is picked up by the TMO.
Disappointing kick as De Beer strikes the post from straight in front, about 38 meters out.
Steenkamp jumps across in the lineout so Pumas get the penalty. They opt for the lineout rather than three points, and then lose the lineout. Opportunity gone!
Pumas will have a chance here before the break. Poor kick by Arendse leaves the Pumas with a 22m lineout.
HALF TIME! 3-11. Bulls dominated the opening exchanges but the Pumas have come back to make it a contest. They should arguably be closer on the scoreboard bar for some easy points thrown away. Join us in a few minutes for the second half.

Nope, Pumas again opt for the lineout and they lose it on their own throw. Some poor decision-making from the hosts.

PENALTY! PUMAS! DE BEER! 6-11. It is a 5-point difference as De Beer slots this kick.
Skew throw by the Bulls on the Pumas 10m line. It is now the Bulls who is making plenty of unforced errors.

PENALTY! BULLS! SMITH! 6-14. Smith makes no mistake. Back to an 8-point game.
Good pressure by the Bulls but the Pumas force a knock-on. They can clear their lines via a scrum.
Bulls inside the Pumas 22. This is their chance to create proper daylight on the scoreboard.
TRY! BULLS! NORTJE! 6-19. That is what the Bulls have been wanting. After almost 10 phases, Nortje drives over from close range.
CONVERSION! SMITH! 6-21. The conversion is good and the Bulls have more than a two converted try lead. Will they chase the bonus point?
Bulls give away a penalty, and then have too much to say. The ref marches them a further 10 meters back.
PENALTY! PUMAS! DE BEER! 9-21. De Beer nails this very tough kick from 40 meters on the angle.
Another penalty to Pumas and another shot at goal.
PENALTY! PUMAS! DE BEER! 12-21. De Beer knocks this one between the uprights as well and the lead is back to nine points.
Pumas are suddenly in the mood to play. The Bulls defence will have to stay tight here as play loosens up a bit.
TRY! BULLS! GROBBELAAR! 12-26. What a finish by the hooker who scores after smashing through four tackles.
Smith hits the post for the second time tonight.
That try has put the knife in the Pumas as they suddenly look tired and out of ideas.
Pumas do however win a scrum pen. De Beer finds touch on the 22. Can they get their first try of the day?
PENALTY TRY! 19-26. Pumas get their maul going but the Bulls collapse. The ref runs in under the posts, well deserved for the hosts, and suddenly, the game is back on.
Penalty to the Bulls just inside Pumas territory. High tackle, poor that from the Pumas.
TRY! BULLS! STEENKAMP! 19-31. Route one by the Bulls works once again. They just have too much power as Steenkamp drives over.
FULL TIME! 19-33. Pumas were competitive throughout but the Bulls star quality was just too much on the night. Positives for both sides.
