Messages poured through on social media after seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher celebrated his 52nd birthday on Sunday.
Schumacher retired from F1 after a three-year stint with Mercedes from 2010-2012, having previously retired in 2006 after a hugely successful spell - winning five world titles - with Ferrari. He also won two with Benetton.
On 29 December, 2013, he suffered serious head injuries in an accident while skiing with his teenage son Mick in the French Alps at Meribel.
He hit the right side of his head on a rock, splitting open the helmet. Schumacher's condition stabilised after he was placed in a drug-induced coma, from which he later emerged.
Schumacher is reportedly rehabilitating at his family home in Gland, Switzerland.
Reigning F1 champion Lewis Hamilton wished Schumacher well in a touching message, writing: "thinking of you today".
In October last year, Hamilton surpassed Schumacher's record (91) for most wins in F1 history at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Hamilton also equalled Schumacher's record of seven Formula One world titles after claiming his 94th career win at the Turkish Grand Prix.
