Sauber chair 'very proud' of Alfa Romeo deal

Cape Town - Sauber chairperson Pascal Picci has welcomed the team's new link up with Alfa Romeo, hopeful that it will bring "great success" for both parties.

Earlier this week Sauber announced that they had reached a multi-year agreement with Fiat Chrysler that would see the Alfa Romeo brand return to F1.

Under the new partnership, which includes "strategic, commercial and technological co-operation" and "the exchange of engineering and technical know-how", the team will be known as 'Alfa Romeo Sauber F1'.

"We are very pleased to welcome Alfa Romeo to the Sauber F1 Team," said Picci.

"Alfa Romeo has a long history of success in grand prix racing, and we are very proud that this internationally renowned company has chosen to work with us for its return to the pinnacle of motorsport.

"Working closely with a car manufacturer is a great opportunity for the Sauber Group to further develop its technology and engineering projects.

"We are confident that together we can bring the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team great success, and look forward to a long and successful partnership."

Sauber are expected to confirm Ferrari protege Charles Leclerc as one of their 2018 drivers with Marcus Ericsson expected to retain his seat.
