Johannesburg - Johan Cronje finished second in the men's 800m B race at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels on Friday night.

Cronje, the only South African taking part at the last Diamond League event of the 2013 campaign, crossed the line in one minute, 45.85 seconds (1:45.85).

He missed his personal best, set in Berlin five days earlier, by 0.21 seconds, and finished 0.40 seconds behind Brandon Johnson of the United States. Paul Robinson of Ireland was third in 1:46.06.

The 31-year-old middle distance specialist, who set a new national 1 500m record this season and grabbed the bronze medal at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow last month, will line up in the metric mile at the World Challenge meeting in Rieti on Sunday.
