Cape Town - Olympic sprinting legend Usain Bolt will be hosting Africa’s Richest Race Day, the Sun Met, celebrated with GH Mumm Champagne, on the January 27, 2018 at Kenilworth racecourse in Cape Town.

This announcement was made at a stylish function staged at the Grand Africa Cafe and Beach, with the charismatic Bolt beckoning fans, “Watch out - I’m on my way!”

The true ability of thoroughbred racehorses is measured by their innate speed, so it’s apt that the fastest human on the planet will be making a star turn.

The Sun Met is an iconic horse race with an extended history dating back to 1883.

“Style ahead of the field,” is the mantra for the 134th edition as a dynamic array of sponsors aspire to elevate the event to global standards.

Sun International, Phumelela Gaming and Leisure, Investec, Cape Thoroughbred Sales, Klawervlei Stud and Kuda Insurance are building on a successful collaboration initiated last year.

The conditions of entry for this year’s race have been slightly tweaked in a technical move which will satisfy the purists. It will now be run as a weight-for-age contest, which will serve to attract the best horses in the country. The R5 million stake is a suitably lucrative prize for the Met, with another R15 million on offer for other important races on the day’s full programme.
