Pretoria - The South Africa women's hockey team secured a series whitewash over Scotland following a 4-1 victory at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria on Wednesday.

The Proteas went into the half-time break with a 3-1 lead in the fifth and final Test before they added the last goal in the second half.

Captain Sulette Damons scored a brace while Quanita Bobbs and Celia Evans also got onto the scoresheet for South Africa.

Bobbs opened the scoring two minutes into the encounter before Scotland won the first penalty corner in the 10th minute.

Cat Ralph's conventional strike, however, was saved by Phume Mbande in goal, while Becky Merchant's follow-up went wide of the near post.

Four minutes later Sam Judge forced her way into the strike zone and drilled the equaliser past Mbande at the near post (1-1).

Buoyed by their success, Scotland foraged their way back within striking distance and South African central defender Lisa Deetlefs made a crucial intervention to avert danger.

South Africa fought back and a determined Candice Manuel won the first penalty corner in the 15th minute.

Bobbs' drag-flick was glove-saved by an acrobatic Nicola Cochrane high to her right.

A stick check won Scotland's second penalty corner in the 26th minute and Judge's shot was repelled by Mbane for South Africa to break out at high speed.

Tarryn Bright fed Kelly Madsen, and the Durban player's accurate cross from the right found an unmarked Celia Evans, whose shot then ricocheted off Cochrane into the goal in the 28th minute.

Two minutes later South Africa recovered quickly from an untidy second penalty corner and Damons let loose a shot into the far corner past Cochrane (3-1).

South Africa again broke out fast and in the 63rd minute Illse Davids' pass to Tanya Britz saw the striker's deflection run into the path of Damons, who for the fourth goal (4-1).
