Cape Town - EFC legend Andrew van Zyl reckons Dricus du Plessis would win a superfight with fellow champ-champ Dalcha Lungiambula.

Plans are afoot to pit welterweight and middleweight king Du Plessis (12-2) against light heavyweight and heavyweight counterpart Lungiambula (9-1) in the new year.

Both men have expressed interest in the scrap, with EFC matchmaker Graeme Cartmell last month saying it would be “the greatest match-up” in the promotion’s nine-year history.

However, negotiating the weight they fight at may prove tricky given the title implications.

Van Zyl, who lost the heavyweight belt to Lungiambula by split decision in June, suspects Du Plessis’s all-round game will stifle the Congolese enforcer should they meet.

The 1.89m veteran also pointed out the ex-KSW 77kg strap holder does not lack for size.

“Dricus will walk around at 94kg, he is taller than I am,” Van Zyl told

“I think Dricus will beat him.

“Dalcha will have to rely on a lucky punch.

“He doesn’t have enough of a total game to beat Dricus.”

Van Zyl (19-4) will aim to respond from his defeat to Lungiambula against Englishman Stuart Austin (12-5) on the main card of EFC 76 at Time Square in Pretoria on December 8.

Du Plessis’s older brother Niel (2-1) will take on Roger Griffin (3-6) at middleweight in the prelims.
