The rancour around the 2021 Springboks v British and Irish Lions series has been painful to those of temperate mind who treasure the ethos of the rivalry.

Not helped by the oppressive lockdown-linked parameters, it’s been evident (at times) on the field, in often humourless, toxic social-media carping between rival supporters, in the various sideshows like the heavily scrutinized conduct of masterminds Rassie Erasmus and Warren Gatland … and extended to many in the media.

Ludicrously parochial - to the point of childishness - written sentiment has come too liberally from certain scribes following both camps closely.
