As the Sharks prepare for a new dawn under new owners MVM Holdings, their former CEO Brian van Zyl is thrilled that his vision of the Sharks playing in the Northern Hemisphere will come to fruition this year.

SA Rugby confirmed South Africa’s "Big Four" franchises' participation in the Rainbow Cup (PRO16) from 2021, an amalgamated tournament of the old PRO12 that had Irish, Welsh, Scottish and Italian clubs.

The move closed the 25-year chapter of Super Rugby, which the Sharks never won, despite going to four finals (1996, 2001, 2007 and 2012) and hosting the first final ever held in the country in 2007.
