Cape Town - The Blue Bulls are working hard at improving their defence, coach Nollis Marais has stressed.

The Bulls have scored 21 tries in four games in this season’s Currie Cup, but have also leaked 18 - which saw them lose two of their matches.

They conceded six tries in the first half of their 45-34 loss to Western Province at Newlands last weekend.

The team will however be buoyed by winning the second half 21-3 and not conceding a try.

“Our attitude has changed a lot and I’m pleased with the progress. The problem is that we score six tries, but concede seven,” Marais told Netwerk24.

“There is a new way of defending which was done in corroboration with Mitch (John Mitchell, the Bulls’ new executive of rugby). Some of the players are struggling with it and it leads to us falling back on old ways at times. We also didn’t defend well in Super Rugby and it’s something we’re working hard on.”

The Blue Bulls, currently fourth in the standings, welcome the Free State Cheetahs to Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 14:05.
