Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie has named his team for Saturday’s Currie encounter against the Pumas in Nelspruit.

Following Ruan Pienaar's cameo at flyhalf in the 33-32 win over Griquas in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, Fourie has opted to start the Springbok veteran at No 10 this weekend.

Pienaar, the Cheetahs' regular scrumhalf, was moved to flyhalf at half-time of the Griquas match after starting pivot Reinhardt Fortuin pulled a hamstring.

"Ruan played very well against Griquas at flyhalf and we decided to stick with that and with Brandon Thomson on the bench coming in for the injured Reinhardt Fortuin," Fourie said.

"We had a look at the game against the Griquas again and saw that we had quite a good flow on the attack with Ruan on 10. He could shift the contact points and make Griquas work, which is what we want to do and how we want to play."

Pienaar's move to flyhalf sees Tian Meyer get a run at No 9.

The other change in the backline sees Duncan Saal return to the starting XV after an injury lay-off. The former Maties winger replaces Craig Barry at wing.

Fourie also made a few changes up front.

Lock Rynier Bernardo joins the second row and forms a new partnership with Victor Sekekete, while Mihlali Mosi, Aidon Davis and Junior Pokomela will make up the loose trio.

The Cheetahs are sixth on the log standings on 26 points, while the Pumas are fourth on 28 points.

Kick-off is at 11:45 on Saturday.
